We kick it off with Kasey’s monster, forty eight inch mac he caught on 8 pound line. Kasay says it was a beautiful, albeit cold day fishing at the Gorge as he trolled through chunks of ice, but this big laker was a perfect way to warm up.
Dave took his brother Brad fishing at Flaming Gorge because his brother had never caught a burbot. In two nights they caught nearly 30 fish, including this 33 inch slimy, monster that Brad reeled in after thinking he’s snagged the bottom. David says he’ll never forget his fishing trip with his brother for burbot.
Here’s another mac for you, but this one is from Bear Lake. Marlow boated this thirty pound beast last year. He says the fish was tagged by the DWR twelve years earlier and it was estimated at over 30 years old. The fish had only grown a little over an inch and a half in the last 10 years. Marlow says, it was an honor to take a picture with this fish and release him back to the depths of the big blue.
On New Years Day the Braegger boys went to the gorge to target some burbot near the Firehole boat ramp where eight year old Dax caught these two burbot. The next day near the confluence, Dax’s cousin Ehtan caught his first ever lake trout. The fun fishing made these two boys first trip the gorge one to remember.
But our winner tonight is no fish tale and they have the video and pictures to prove it. Nine year old Brandon was allowed to skip Ms. DeMille’s third grade class to try and get a big lake trout through the ice. His family hired Ashley Bonser with Addictive Fishing and had an epic day, landing nearly two dozen lakers, some tipping the scales at over 30 pounds.
The family wanted to thank Ashley because his approach with kids made this trip unforgettable. Well Brandon, you not only landed the biggest fish of the day, you also landed our big prize for having the video and snapshot of the week.
