My son and I were out on our first ever pheasant hunt. He’d been out deer and turkey hunting with me but we had never harvested anything together. He says to me, as we’re walking back to the car, “I’d really love to be out on a successful hunt, but I really love just being out here, thanks for bringing me dad.” Ten minutes later as we were walking back to the car this bird flushed out and I shot it at less tan 10 yards mid flight. We looked at each other, threw our hands in the air and shouted for joy.

14 year old Danny Wright went duck hunting for the first time and shot two nice northern shovelers. We had a great first duck hunting experience, capped off with one of the more spectacular November sunsets. The ducks were delicious and Danny definitely has duck fever. David Wright

Hi Adam: After 10 years I drew a limited entry deer tag at the Dolores Triangle during the rut in November. My buddy Patrick and I planned to stay the entire hunt, camping in my tent and roughing it out in the sub zero temperatures. On the opening morning, literally 15 minutes into my hunt, this nice 4×4 buck walked out of the junipers and stood broadside at 134 yards. I pulled up and dropped it and my hunt was over! What was going to be an 8 day hunt ended up lasting less than an hour. My family was surprised and excited to see me 26 hours after I left home and I was happy to sleep in my own, warm bed, and be home for Thanksgiving! Special thanks to the DWR officer, Adam, who stopped by my camp and congratulated me on my success.

Archery hunters on the rifle hunt, thankfully youth hunters can hunt other seasons if not successful on others.Not having been on the general rifle hunt since I was a kid it was my turn to take my son on his first, hunting the same area we had on the archery hunt the whole area seamed completely different not to mention a sea of orange, but Cole was successful and punched his tag on this whitetail framed buck opening weekend.

Hanging with the big cat or (Peace on earth) – my son Jesse’s dog ran this mountain lion up the tree and decided to relax and join him while waiting for us to arrive to give him further instruction.
