Every year for 15 years we go camping in the High Uintas to escape the heat in the Salt Lake Valley. In July of 2021 we were able to capture some sweet pictures of a den of 3 new kit foxes. It was a highlight of our trip to the High Uintas. In 2022 we didn’t see them, but in July of 2023 they were back with a new bigger litter! We were far enough away not to bother them, but that also means that the pixels on the photo may not be good enough to blow up on the TV. It warms my heart that the momma came back! The first picture I’ll upload (20230724_203849) is from 2023. The other two are from 2021.
Lower Provo river brown trout. Koda is 11 years old and in his second year of fly fishing. This monster was caught in less than a foot of water with a sow bug. Koda says it may take him a lifetime to catch another fish like this
My wife and I were married near the end of July in 1986. We often go fishing to celebrate our anniversary. We usually go to the Uintas and fish the Provo or float tube a lake. The sunset photo is from last year. After 37 years and a few failed attempts we finally made it to Alaska to fish for our anniversary. We spent the day on the Kenai. My wife scored the biggest trout and the biggest sockeye. Pure joy on her face. The next day she outfished everyone for halibut, rockfish, and silvers. She is a champ and a great partner.
Nancy, while fishing with her son Bob, landed a 3-4 pound Native Yellowstone Cutthroat. Fish was caught in mid-July at the West Thumb of the Yellowstone Lake in Yellowstone National Park. Nancy used a spinning rod and a #14 Black Leech and wadded out from the road with chest wadders. You don’t catch many, but what you do catch are big.

Stumbling across the crown of a king…
My dad, David Jensen, passed away in June of 2022 without completing his Utah Cutthroat Slam. He had one fish left, the Yellowstone Cutthroat. I reached out to Brett Prettyman just after my dad passed and he jumped on board helping us get dad’s Slam awarded posthumously. We just had to catch the missing Cutthroat. Because my dad’s death hit us so hard last summer, we put off our annual fly fishing trip until this summer. On June 30, after consulting with Matt McKell with Utah DWR about where to catch the Yellowstone Cutthroat, my four sons and I headed for Johnson Creek near Yost to catch the last one on the list. It was difficult fishing. Not only did we catch the Yellowstone Cutthroat for my dad, we also caught one for each us as we work to complete our own Slams. For my oldest son, Ryan, the Yellowstone Cutthroat was his last fish also and he submitted his slam photos just today. The photos we are submitting are of the five of us with dad’s Cutthroat and the same group with Brett Prettyman being awarded dad’s certificate and medallion.
