NEVER EVER QUIT – Tara Ivie ( submitted by her dad, Russ Ivie) Tara was on a quest to harvest her first big game animal. She was unsuccessful in Utahs general season draw, so I mentored her with my permit through UDWR’s mentor program. Her excitement mounted. It was just her, her dad, and a buck tag! Weather conditions were not perfect, and at times seemed stacked against the young lady. She endured relentless wind, low temperatures, and deep snow. She never ever quit! On the evening of the fourth day of Utahs general season deer hunt, everything came together for the young huntress. She spotted this fine buck and made a single clean shot to reach her goal. She made her ‘ol mans dream come true. She set her goal and did whatever it took to achieve it. She never ever quit! As Doug Miller use to say, “Look at that big toothy grin!” It is a pleasure for me to take my kids into the woods. I firmly believe that nature never raised a nobody!

Me and my dad embarked on my general season deer tag journey. We were hunting an area with very few deer, in fact the only deer we saw was the buck I killed. Against all odds, we did it and got my biggest buck to date!

Our trips to Flaming Gorge usually consists of me fishing early at 5:30 am until ~ 9:30 am when Gigi gets out of bed and then she takes over reeling them in. Luckly this beautiful Kokanee wasn’t an early riser either and didn’t break off as several other Kokes did during that week. The Kokanee measured 24″ with a 14″ girth….we are getting a fiberglass mount and can’t wait until next year! Claude and Gigi Dahlk
This is our grand daughter, Ashton, catching the moon down in Goblin Valley, on a recent family outing in October. After she caught the moon, our grandkids had many hours of fun, climbing all over the hoodoos in a beautiful part of our state.
