My wife got lucky this year and drew a really good elk tag in Utah with only 7 points. It was the mid season hunt so the first few days were tough battling the crowds of spike hunters chasing the same elk we were. We had done a lot of pre season scouting but after the rut and hunting pressure the elk were scattered out. After some really tough days hunting we got a tip from some great friends about this bull, and when Hailie saw him it took less than two seconds for her decide he was a shooter! After finding him his cows started feeding into the thick trees and he decided to follow them. Knowing he was going to disappear if he got into the trees and we may not get a second chance at him we decided we needed to make it happen and kill the bull where he was at. Hailie made two amazing 500 yard shots and the bull was down and the celebrations began!! I’m so proud of her for not giving up and battling through some tough conditions and experiences to get rewarded by killing this heavy awesome bull!! The Packout was the worst one we’ve ever had but thanks to our buddies Phil and Denton they made it manageable and well worth it to have a bull like that on our backs!
