My wife and I enjoyed a late season trip with my son and daughter in-law in Alaska at the Aleknagik Island Lodge in Alaska’s Bristol Bay region. The lodge is on a private 5 acre island in the Tikchik Lake system, and the fishing was as amazing as the views were breathtaking. This fresh water lake system is known for its abundance of all five Pacific salmon species throughout the summer, but our late season trip focused on catching beautiful Arctic Char and Rainbow trout. The staff and guides were top notch, and we loved exploring the area and seeing the beautiful fall colors while cruising on the jet boats. It was to say the least a memorable trip and my wife and I were able to land some beautiful Char. It was our first time fishing in Alaska and already looking forward to our next trip.

We were really shocked and excited when we found out our 16 year old Dayaneli drew her once in a lifetime bison hunt for antelope island with only one point! With a lot of practice and hard work she’s become a great shot over the last few years and this is her second year hunting. When we got to antelope island the park rangers were a great help and excited to have her there, they showed her the top bulls on the island and she chose their number one choice. She made the perfect shot right in the neck with a 45-70 dropping this monster trophy bull right in his tracks! We couldn’t be more proud of her and how great she did!
It’s never too cold for our grandson, Cooper, he had to get in “one more cast” on a bitter cold November evening at Bountiful Pond. Ended up catching 5 despite the fridged temperatures.
This hunting season, Mayzie Droscher took her very first deer! It turned out to be the biggest first deer in her family and she’ll never let them forget it! While hunting in the East Canyon unit, her dad spotted this buck at about 175 yards. She took her time, and made one perfect shot. Her and her dad couldn’t have been happier, and the two of them celebrated a moment they’ll never forget. An incredible memory and an amazing first deer for Mayzie!
Ivie Olson had no luck drawing a deer tag her first 2 years of putting in, then finally this year she drew out……. but there was a catch, she drew a deer tag on one of the restricted rifle units which means she couldn’t use a scope on a rifle when hunting deer. That did not stop ivie from the excitement of going hunting. She shot her gun and was ready to hunt when the season came. She hunted hard and never complained. Finally a big mature buck stepped out and Ivie put the open sights on him with the old 30-30 cowboy gun and the rest was history. She shot this nice mature buck at 165 yards with open sites. Ivie loved every minute of hunting and Little does she know her dad Tyson loved it more. And as always we need to thank grandpa Kevin for helping out as well. Ivie says now NO SCOPE NO PROBLEM!

It was a beatiful day in the marsh when my fourteen year old son Cameron connected on this magnificent swan. The swan decoyed perfectly and with one shot the harvest was over. His nine year old brother Logan was more excited about the accomplishment than his older brother. Creating memories like this in the outdoors is something that will last a lifetime.
