Camp Chef Snapshot of the Week – 11/2/2013

[CG :2 LineTim HaleOne last catch]

We kick it off with a houseboat trip for the Hale family down at powell. While his family was packing up to head back to the marina, young Maddux wanted to catch just one more fish. All the rods and gear had been put away so Maddux used some ingenuity, he ran ashore grabbed a stick and rigged up a catfish catching outfit. He soon latched into this channel cat that had this seven year old smiling all the way back to the marina.

[CG :2 LineDylan NelsonWhat a bargain!]

Dylan promised his dad he would mow the lawn all summer without complaint if dad would buy him a new fly rod. Dylan held up with his end of the bargain and so did dad. Check out the nice brown Dylan caught on the upper provo with a fly he tied all by himself.

Bob, his son Ben, and daughters Abigail and Addison enjoyed the bowhunt on the Kamas unit this year. Although they didn’t fill their tags, they enjoyed hunting together in the great out-of-doors. The girls enjoyed getting camo’ed up and sporting beards like their Dad and brother! Now they are off on the extended hunt to see if they can get the girls a deer.

[CG :2 LineJustin RobinsonUpland Game Grand Slam]

Justin and his brother Jason hiked 32 miles so that Jason could try his luck at taking a White Tailed Ptarmigan to finish off his Utah Grand Slam of Upland Game Birds. Justin says it was a 10 mile hike just to get to base camp where they stayed at over 11 thousand feet. From there they hike an additional 4.7 miles to where Scout finally located some birds. Justin says it was a great bucket list trip but he’s not sure the brothers will make it back.

[CG :2 LineRick TalbotWINNER!]

But our winner tonight nearly broke the state record with this beautiful koke. Rick was up at Strawberry this fall as the leaves were changing and so were the fish. He got a tip from a fisheries biologist on where to go and what to use and boy did it pay off with this 22 inch long colored up buck kokanee that had a girth of 16 inches. Rick says his fish fell a half pound shy of beating the record. A few quick snapshots and the fish was released to finish his journey. Rick says, this was a memory he will never forget. What fish story and pictures to prove it Rick as well as having just won our big prize from Camp Chef, for having…our snapshot of the week.
