Camp Chef Snapshot of the Week – 3/9/2013

[CG :2 LineMATT KNIGHTONChip off the ol block]

We kick it off with the Knighton boys last duck hunt of the year. Matt took his three year old son Cohen out for his first duck hunt on the last day of the season. The boys shot this greenwing and young Cohen wouldn’t put it down. In fact, he helped dad clean it and cook it up for dinner the next night, eating every bite saying that duck meat makes little boys strong. They’re already counting down the days till this seasons opener.

Bryan drew his first limited entry archery elk tag down on the dutton. He tells us he scouted hard, glassed up very few elk, and after many disappointing days, he finally connected with this great six by six on his 13th day of the hunt. A quick call and he soon had family there to help him pack out the bull. Bryan says the dutton was tough, but he saw some great country and made some memories that will last him a lifetime.

Ky Hoffman just finished his hunter’s safety and with his trusted 410, bagged his first bird with one shot, this tasty pinehen. Check out the pride in Ky’s face, a memory I’m sure he’ll keep for a long time.

Kevin and his wife Suz just started fly fishing two years ago and set a goal to float the Green River. Last July, they reached that goal and Suz, made a perfect cast to this bad boy with a well placed elk hair caddis. After a tense fight, Suz landed her biggest fish to date and her excitement shows. After the catch, Kevin told her that she was now an official, steely eyed, dry fly fisher. There’s nothing better than when your wife out fishes you.

But our winner tonight was down on an icy January drive along the Zion-Mt Caramel highway in Zion National Park. Katie says they spotted this small herd of desert big horn sheep hanging around the east tunnel. They stopped, grabbed their camera and instantly knew they had just shot the winning picture for our snapshot of the week contest and well, she was right. Congrats Katie on a great trip, our great prize that you’ll have on hand the next time you venture to Zion, as yes, Katie, you did, you won our snapshot of the week.

Remember submit your pictures and a brief explanation of your latest outdoor adventures online at KSLTV.com. The winner each week wins a Camp Chef two burner Explorer stove. Portability and Power from our friends at Camp Chef.
