11 year old Jaxon Apple smashed this huge antelope buck today. 260 yard shot and the buck stopped dead in his tracks. Shot with dad, Josh and uncle Garren. Antelope were spotted 2,000 yards away and closed the gap to 600 yards. Jax tried to get a shot off but the big antelope kept moving. The herd then went behind a burm and played cat and mouse for the next two hours. We didn’t want to push the antelope knowing that would make a hard shot for Jax. The female antelope would come out on the left and then on the right. The big buck was staying put. Eventually they winded us and got spooked and a handful of the doe started running uphill. The last second the big buck came out and all the antelope stopped for a second. 260 yards and Jax dropped the antelope in his tracks belly up. Dad and son hooping and hollering BBD! Such a fun hunt and memories that will last for a lifetime. Jax wants to shoulder mount the buck:)
Caught this guy checking me out up by Brian Head.
I finally drew a NV archery Elk permit and what a special hunt it was. The bulls were not talking much but I was able to sneak up to 37 yards and the rest was history. Not bad for a first archery bull!
Biggest one to date what a a awesome Utah Public land buck !
Henry Mountain buck shot on opening day of muzzleloader season.
I just had THE HUNT of my life! It started out to be a joke on my brother, Nick, but it ended up being a fabulous couple of days “hunting” for photos! Last year Nick drew out for a Once-In-A-Lifetime Bison Hunt on the Henry Mountains of Utah and he offered to take me hunting if I wanted to go on a hunt. We grew up in a “hunting family” but I was never a hunter myself and I think he wanted to try and convert me. I picked up a proclamation and read it to see if or what hunt I would want to consider. The hunt I considered was the Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep but still didn’t think I could bring myself to actually shoot it. However, I was going to tease my brother into thinking he had convinced me to go. The day before the draw, I text my brother to tell him how excited I was in anticipation. He asked what I was so excited about and I led him on about drawing out for a Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep hunt. Then when I told him I was pulling his leg he was bummed, so we planned to go but made it a “photo” hunt instead. Nick has always been a big hunter, but hasn’t ever hunted for Deseret or Rocky Mountain Big Horn so he asked around to get some ideas as to where to go to find these sheep. We took 2 days and found quite the variety of animals to photo “shoot”; we got pictures of pronghorn, a nice buck, wild horses, donkeys and some Deseret Big Horn Sheep but our prize find was a Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep! While riding around those 2 days, my brother decided he just might have to put-in so he could go hunt sheep for real next year. I asked him which one and he said he wasn’t sure yet but said, “you know what that means though, don’t you?” I said, “yes, that means I have to go hunting with you.” Best “hunt” ever!
