Snapshot of the Week: Jan. 31, 2015

This weeks entries are some of the best we’ve seen in quite some time. The Petersen boys showed their dad how it’s done while fishing up in Idaho. Tag and Chase started the morning off with a double, then Bradyn ended the day with this huge trophy bow, the biggest the boys have ever seen out of this lake. Dad’s excuse that day for not catching any fish is that he was too busy ensuring his kids had a blast. I would say he succeeded.

Kyle was finally able to get out into the marsh with his aptly named son Drake. On their first trip out to get a swan, old dad was able to decoy this fine bird in to 15 yards. Kyle says it was a great experience to get his son out, and as you can see, six year old Drake was excited as well.

Brandon was up in the hills hunting ruffed grouse when he spotted this male all strutted up and showing off his rich black ruff of neck feathers, hence their name. Brandon says they decided not to shoot this bird because of how pretty he was. Brandon says the darn thing even, chased their four wheelers up the trail for a while.

At just 15, Trevor is an up and coming wildlife photographer and as you can see, is getting pretty darn good. Out with his dad and grandpa trying to capture with a camera, Trevor’s dad told him that taking pictures of ducks and geese is much more fun than shooting them with a gun. Being a duck hunting fool, Trevor didn’t believe him. But he soon found out how much harder it is to shoot with a camera than it is a gun. Trevor was pretty proud when his dad told him that he was getting better pictures than he was. An experience Trevor won’t soon forget.

But our winner tonight caught a couple of kissing coyotes. Shon, spends a lot of time wandering alone with his camera in search of wildlife. He found these two on New Years Day after a few hours of searching. He spotted on and followed it until she led him to the other where they had a very excited and affectionate reunion. Shon says the coyotes allowed him to get relatively close to capture this great wildlife moment. No doubt a great shot Shon, worthy of our great prize as you just won our…snapshot of the week.
