Camp Chef Snapshot of the Week: 5/17/2014

We start with a last gasp for spring. Carl and his 16 year old daughter Chandler found 12 inches of fresh powder up in the high Unitah’s in late April. This is Chandler busting through a small cornice just South of Bald Mountain. Dad says they had a ball on what was their last trip of the year.

Kyle has never experienced ice off at the berry. This year he made it a goal and boy did it pay off with this 25 inch rainbow he caught just off the Soldier Creek ramp. Kyle says he’ll be back next year and ever year after to try and get another monster like this.

Andrew took his kids down to Powell to do a little kayaking and try their luck fishing from shore. Andrew set his daughter Madison up with a wild eyed shad and before he could get his rod into the water, Madison yelled fish on! Madison had hooked a nice bass and a striper on her very next cast. Madison had out fished dear old dad once again.

Rick and his buddies took their annual bass slaying trip to the sister lakes of Sand Hollow and Quail Creek last week. The fishing was a bit slower than expected but they still landed some lunker crappie at Quail Creek and some monster bass. They rounded out their trip when they spotted this real monster, this Gila Monster crossing a road near Quail Creek. Rick Says, Gila Monsters spend 95% of their lives underground, so it was truly a once in a lifetime experience to witness one in person.

And finally our winner tonight caught a fish that was one pound shy of the state record. Jared was down at Sand Hollow with his wife and friends when they decided to go fish from shore at night. At about 11 pm, Jared was throwing a rapala when he latched into this huge bucketmouth, the biggest fish he’s ever caught. The fish topped out Jared’s 9 pound scale. So, 12 hours later, he had the DWR officially weigh his 25 inch long bass and it came in at just over 9 pounds. Jared says they caught a lot of good bass this trip, but his big fish was once heck of an experience. No doubt Jared that fish will be hard to beat as was your picture, as you just won, our snapshot of the week.
